The main things that attracted me to this job are that fact that it’s outdoor work and you’re working as a part of a team.

I like to use my hands and get stuck in and I’ve been able to do that with the support from the team in the quarry. They really are excellent to work with.

When I left school I knew I wanted to do something practical and the quarrying industry appealed because it employs other members of my family.

I haven’t been disappointed and I’m surprised by the amount of variety within the job. There’s always something new to learn.

As new entrants to the world of quarrying, Leanne, Kelly and Chris had no previous knowledge of the industry, but part of their induction programme included a visit to a quarry so that they now understand the basic processes involved.

They work in offices close to their homes and enjoy the benefits associated with their jobs, such as sporting and social activities. From admin to accountancy, their roles are typical of those on offer to young people joining straight from school at 16.
